Ryan's Surgery Update as of 630PM

It's 6:30pm and we just got off the phone with Jan.  They are just now starting the jaw.  It's taking longer than what they were wanting.  The face surgery took a little more than 3 hours.  The eye took longer than they thought.  There was more damage to the eye and nose than what they thought.  They put plates and pins in his face and they may shift.  If they do, it means more surgery in the future.  In fixing the nose they had to pack it and because of the packing they put a trachea in which he will be breathing through for the next few days.  Until they can unpack.  He will be breathing through a ventilator.
Pray the jaw does not go as long as expected because the doctors did not want to go longer than 10 hours.  They will because they started, but they really didn't want to.

  1. Dear Ryan and Michelle-
Haven't talked to either of you since our Greenville days. I heard about your accident a few days ago from Dewayne Neeley. I've been praying for you and following this blog since then. I don't know if you remember me or ever heard, but my husband and I were in a car accident over 5 years ago. I broke my neck and crushed my spinal cord. I am now a quadriplegic. As "bad" as that sounds, I can't even begin to imagine the extent of your injuries. But I do understand long hospitalizations and recovery time. I was in the hospital for 6 months (2 of those on a vent). All that to say, I'm so thankful you survived; I'm thankful that your beautiful children were unscathed; I'm thankful Michelle is already home; I'm thankful Ryan's team of doctors are putting him back together. I will continue to lift you guys up in prayer. God is good and has amazing ways of keeping His promises. Love and blessings to your precious family~

  3. Michelle~ I didn't want to assume anything. :) You guys will be in my heart and prayers. The picture posted of you and Ryan brought back a lot of memories of my early hospitalization. I showed your picture to my husband and we both cried. There's nothing like watching the one you love suffer...no matter who has the worst injuries. I'm praying long periods of REST for you both.
